On 11th March 2024, the start of Ramadan, an impressive turn out of 70 pupils played a thrilling inter-tutor football tournament on Pleckgate’s impressive new astro-turf pitch.
The tournament, organised by Mr Haworth and refereed superbly by football stars Aryan from ADH and Finley from AHA, was played in a fantastic spirit with all pupils involved a credit to their tutors and year group.
The lesson the teams learned in the tournament was that if you don’t succeed, try, try, try again!
Reigning Champions and pre-tournament favourites MST played a thrilling first game against fierce rivals NJK. Despite the promptings of master tactician and Pleckgate’s answer to Pep Guardiola, Mr Stokes MST narrowly lost. NJK then dominated the group despite falling behind to a spirited RBU and became group Champions. A fierce rivalry in the other group between SLI and MBA ended in controversy with MBA claiming a potential goal crossed the line, however V.A.R is not yet available so it was not given. This meant that SLI were crowned group Champions.
MBA’s teamwork and the way they handled the disappointment reflected the ethos instilled in them by Pleckgate’s Jurgen Klopp Mr Bajkowski. Perennial inter-tutor whipping boys SLI showed incredible improvement under the guidance of PNE coach Mr Livesey, Pleckgate’s rising star who has been compared to Xavi Alonso.
In a thrilling final a fine rear-guard action by SLI kept a rampant NJK at bay marshalled by captain Issa Sardar and they almost went ahead through “fox in the box” Rayhaan Kanmi. Finally goals from Qasim Akeel and Rethwan Hussain swept NJK to glory.
The final reflected all that is good about Pleckgate, Year 10 and the power of N-Jing the beautiful game!!
