Pupils visited Victorian Workhouse Museum in Ripon, to walk in the footsteps of the Victorian poor.
Pupils were given the opportunity to explore the museum and then took part in three activities.
The first was Schoolroom where they experienced the education and discipline given to workhouse children. The second was Guardian’s Board where the pupils role-played being members of the Guardian’s Board who would listen to requests for help from ‘paupers’ and question them before deciding on a course of action.
The third was Laundry Chores where pupils learned how to beat rugs, grate carbolic soap and wash and mangle clothes.
