Pleckgate’s girl’s mathematics team were crowned Burnley College’s Maths Feast champions!
Eight eager Pleckgate mathematicians solved maths problems, carried out critical thinking and constructed three-dimensional shapes at Burnley College’s AMSP Maths Feast.
Pleckgate had a strong reputation to defend as they won the competition in 2022.
The team consisted of the highly-talented mathematicians Khadeeja, Sophia, Asifa, Laila, Peter, Abdurrahman, Muhammad and Hussain who were up against 21 other teams from as far afield as Poulton-Le-Fylde.
The competition was in four rounds with its own set of unique challenges.
The first round was a problem-solving round using logic and was won by the Pleckgate boys’ team. The second round was a mathematical crossword and was won by the Pleckgate girls’ team.
In round three, the girl’s teams scored highly on a difficult critical thinking problem on finding different types of combinations which had to follow certain rules.
The final round was an origami-themed round and pupils had to construct some complex three-dimensional shapes.
At the end of the day, Pleckgate girl’s mathematics team were announced overall winners, beating the Pleckgate boys’ team. As a reward for their hard work and success all pupils received Amazon gift vouchers.
