On 27th February a group of Year 11 pupils attended a Candle Conference in Manchester. Candle Conferences were founded by Dr Peter Vardy in 2010 to offer pupils of Religious Studies and Philosophy an intensive University Style day of lectures as an alternative to examiner roadshows and textbooks.
This particular conference was tailored to the requirements of the GCSE specifications and featured model answers, debates and whole-group discussions, Q&A sessions and opportunities to share, discuss and complete short written activities. Pupils were able to practice their skills in analysing and engaging with debates, developing well-structured, effective written arguments and making well-supported academic judgements by building logical chains of reasoning and evaluating counter-claims.
